Durban- This week, on successive days, two people were shot dead in separate incidents in Ethikweni.

The latest shooting occurred on Friday, 26 June 2026.

ALS Paramedics responded to a shooting incident around 9 am on South Coast Road, near Edwin Swales Drive in the Rossburgh area of Durban.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garith Jamieson said when paramedics arrived on the scene, they found that the South African Police Service (SAPS) officers and Security Officials were already in attendance, with the area around a truck cordoned off.

“Paramedics were shown a male who had sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body,” said Jamieson.

“He was assessed on the scene; however showed no signs of life and was declared deceased on the scene.”

The motive for the fatal shooting was unknown.

A day earlier on Thursday, 25 June 2025, ALS Paramedics responded, just after 11:20 am, to a shooting incident on Lotus Road, near Foxglove Road in the Springtown area of Durban.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS already in attendance with the area cornered off,” Jamieson said.

“Paramedics were shown to a male believed to be in his 50s who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

“He was assessed; however, showed no signs of life and was declared deceased on the scene.”

No arrests were reported.

Meanwhile, East Coast Radio reports that police in Durban and across KwaZulu-Natal are on high alert ahead of the June 30 anti-immigrant protests.

Authorities have increased deployments, coordinated with community forums, and warned that any violence, looting, or intimidation will be met with swift action.
