KwaMhlanga – Chief Mkhutjhwa Mabhena from the Manala Mbhongo Traditional Authority in Mpumalanga has been named as the new Ndebele King.
The Ndebele Kingdom announced Chief Mabhena as the new monarch in a statement made available to The Bulrushes on Sunday, 26 July 2026.
The proclamation follows the passing of King Makhosonke II, whose birth name was Enock Mabhena.
King Makhosonke II passed on 9 June 2026 at the age of 65 after having reigned for 40 years.

The statement said: “Greetings to the Ndebele nation. The sun has risen”.
The statement added that Mkhutjhwa Mabhena will take over the reins from the setting sun of King Makhosoke II.
Before being named King, Mkhutjhwa Mabhena was the chief of the Manala Mbhongo Traditional Authority.
