Richmond – At least 35 people were injured when a bus overturned on the R56 near Mkhuzane Primary School outside Richmond in KwaZulu-Natal.
ALS Paramedic spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the crash occurred just before 6am, Monday, 7 September 2026.
Emergency teams from the Cato Ridge operation arrived to find the bus lying on its side after veering off the roadway.
Jamieson described the scene as chaotic, with multiple casualties scattered around the crash site.
“A triage system was immediately set up, and several ambulances were dispatched to assist,” the ALS Paramedics spokesperson said.
Jamieson said at least 35 passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical.
“Once stabilised at the scene, the injured were transported to various hospitals for further treatment,” he said.
The exact cause of the crash remains unclear.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) attended the scene and confirmed that investigations are underway.
