Volksrust – Four people were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a bakery truck and a sedan.

The deadly crash occurred on the R23 between Volksrust and Perdekop, Mpumalanga, on Friday night, 24 April 2026.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie, revealed that all the deceased were females.

The injured were taken to Standerton Hospital.

The exact cause of the deadly accident is not yet known and remains a subject of further probe with the relevant authorities.

MEC Macie has conveyed sympathies to the families of the dead and wishes the injured a swift recovery.

“We are again pleading with motorists to play their part by using the road responsibly.

“We should all contribute towards making the road safer by always obeying the rules of the road and driving with maximum concentration,” Macie said.

Although the cause of the deadly crash was yet to be established, MEC Macie reminded motorists to adhere to traffic rules.

“These crashes are not only costly in terms of human lives, but they also affect the economy of the country,” lamented Macie.
