The 28-year-old Soweto woman, who faked her hijacking and near-rape on Facebook, has been released on R2 000 bail.
Known on Facebook as Siphiwe Manzini Mtimande, the court listed the accused’s real name as Phindile Kunene.
She was granted bail on Monday, but the motive for the fake hijack posts on Facebook and later a report to the police are yet to be revealed.
Kunene was arrested at the police station where she reported the “hijack”. Police said under questioning, the accused confessed her ordeal was all made up.
She spent the weekend behind bars and appeared before the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto on Monday.
National Prosecuting Authority Gauteng Spokesperson Phindi Louw-Mjonodwane said further investigations would be carried out.
The matter was postponed to June 18.
