Johannesburg – Former 702 radio presenter Eusebius McKaiser has died of a suspected epileptic seizure.

Indications are that he died in his home. He was 44.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of renowned journalist and former 702 presenter Eusebius McKaiser,” radio station 702 said Tuesday afternoon in a post on Twitter.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to his loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace. #RIPEusebiusMcKaiser.

TimesLive, where McKaiser was a columnist, is reporting that he died of a suspected epileptic seizure.

TimesLive said Jackie Strydom, the manager of the celebrated analyst, broadcaster, and author said McKaiser died on Tuesday after suffering a suspected epileptic seizure.

Speaking to TimesLive Strydom said McKaiser was going about his day without any hint of illness.

“It all happened so quickly. His partner Nduduzo Nyanda is at the mortuary with his family,” said Strydom.

“I am so distraught. I can’t believe this.”

The outspoken media personality had more than 400 000 followers on Twitter, where there was an outpouring of grief over his untimely passing.

McKaiser, who was also a regular contributor to TimesLIVE, was born in Grahamstown to a family of little means.

TimesLive reports that McKaiser first enrolled at Rhodes University in 1997 to study toward a BA in law and philosophy.

An Honours and then a Master in philosophy, both with distinction, followed before he was selected on a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University.

His biography on the Rhodes University website said McKaiser was a political activist and an associate political and social analyst at the Wits Centre for Ethics.

McKaiser participated in research that examined the relationship between civil society and the state in the policy arena, particularly in light of the changing post-Polokwane political landscape.
