Pretoria – Former Bosasa Chief Operations Officer Angelo Agrizzi will appear in the High Court in Pretoria next week on Thursday to face accusations he offered an MP a bribe of R800 000.
Allegations are that Agrizzi bribed former MP Vincent Smith with cash, university fee payments for his daughter, and a VW Polo in return for offering political influence in Bosasa’s favour.
Giving an update on the matter on Tuesday, Investigating Directorate Spokesperson Sindisiwe Seboka said: “The case involving Bosasa’s former Chief Operations Officer Angelo Agrizzi’s R800 000 matter has been transferred to the High Court of the Gauteng Division in Pretoria.
“His first appearance will be on 29 February 2024.”
Agrizzi was initially arrested in October 2020 for having allegedly offered Smith a bribe of over R800 000.
Agrizzi is the only accused in the matter as the case was separated from his co-accused Smith in July 2021.
The Investigating Directorate said Agrizzi faces charges that include tax fraud, money laundering, corruption, and breaching the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) Act.
“His mental assessment report from Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital is also expected to be submitted to the court on 29 February 2024, in his separate R1.8 billion Bosasa and Department of Correctional Services matter,” Seboka said.
Smith, who denies any wrongdoing, is expected to appear separately in the High Court in Johannesburg on Friday, 23 February 2024.
