Pretoria – A two-week cycling tour will mark the Trans Kalahari Corridor’s 20th anniversary through three countries.
The tour will start in South Africa’s city of Rustenburg in the North West province on Tuesday (16 April 2024).
This year marks 20 years since the establishment of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor Management Committee (TKCM) between the governments of South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia.
As part of the commemoration event, cyclists from the three member states will go on a two-week cycling tour that will start in South Africa through the N4.
Cyclists will then cross over the border to Lobatse in Botswana and head to Walvis Bay in Namibia.
The cyclists will promote the Trans Kalahari Corridor along different towns and villages under the theme: Cycling for the TKC.
They will also promote road safety. The tour is expected to end on April 29 in Walvis Bay in Namibia.
South African Transport Minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga will sign a pledge committing to the development of the Trans Kalahari Corridor at the start of the cycling tour.
This pledge will be handed over to ministers of transport in Botswana and Namibia for signing during the tour.
