Johannesburg – The organisation #Africa4Palestine has applauded the dismissal of columnist Howard Feldman by News24.
In a statement on Friday, (20 September 2024), #Africa4Palestine, which describes itself as a human rights organisation, said it was joining South Africans in “welcoming the long overdue dismissal of belligerent and unrepentant Zionist and pro-Israel genocide columnist Howard Feldman by News24”.
The #Africa4Palestine statement added: “Feldman was summarily dismissed by the publication for glorifying the grotesque and illegal terrorism by Israel in which thousands of people were injured in Lebanon.
“The smuggling of bombs in devices is similar to the letter bombing South African anti-apartheid activists experienced during our struggle for freedom.”
#Africa4Palestine said in a series of bombings that have left over 20 people dead and over 2 000 injured, “Israeli forces planted explosive devices in 5 000 pagers and mobile devices”.
The explosions were indiscriminate, killing civilians.
“The decision by News24 to fire Feldman for celebrating the murder of civilians and terrorism was, in fact, long overdue.
“We have seen how he has applauded the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Howard is overtly an Israeli genocide propagandist.
“Hate speech and promotion of terrorism has no place in South Africa and we will be exploring options available to hold him and others responsible for their promotion of Israeli terrorism.”
Responding to his sacking in a blog for The Israel Times, Feldman said: “There is a first time for everything. Yesterday was my first time being fired. From an unpaid position. For reasons unclear.”
