Rustenburg – Police arrested a 48-year-old suspect they found with two pistols, live ammunition, a pellet gun, and sachets containing cocaine.
Today, Tuesday, (22 April 2025), the arrested suspect named as Augustin Chukwudi Anokwuru – a Nigerian – appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court facing charges of the illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and drugs.
Hawks Spokesperson Warrant Officer Amogelang Malwetse said the accused was arrested on 16 April 2025 at a guesthouse in Rustenburg.

“It is alleged that during the operation, in which a search was conducted, a revolver with rounds and two pistols, live ammunition, a pellet gun, and small sachets containing cocaine and hard rock were found,” said Warrant Officer Malwetse.
“The drugs were estimated at the value of R45 000.”

The accused, Anokwuru, was remanded in custody after his court appearance.
Warrant Officer Malwetse said the accused will be brought back to court on 29 April 2025 for a formal bail application.
The North West Acting Head for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Better known as the Hawks), Brigadier Georgia Moos, and the Director of Public Prosecutions in North West, Dr. Rachel Makhari, welcomed the arrest.
They both commended the investigation and prosecution team for their commitment to the fight against drugs and unlawful firearms.
The team comprised the Rustenburg-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, the Phokeng and Stilfontein K9, the Local Criminal Record Centre, and the Rustenburg Tactical Response Team.
