Pongola – Following the ruling by the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) endorsing Misuzulu kaZwelithini as King of the Zulu Nation, the monarch has convened a meeting with the Royal Family to chart the way forward.
Earlier this week, in a unanimous decision on Monday, 6 October 2025, the SCA overturned a 2023 Pretoria High Court judgment that had declared President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recognition of the King Misuzulu kaZwelithini as unlawful.
The court upheld the appeal brought by President Ramaphosa and King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
In response to the SCA verdict, and under direct instruction of King Misuzuku, members of the Zulu Royal Family convened on Thursday, 9 October 2025, at the King’s directive to deliberate on the way forward for the Royal House following this significant judgment.
The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Traditional Prime Minister, Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, and coordinated by the Private Office of His Majesty under the leadership of Mr. Squire Arnold Nododile, Chief Director and Private Secretary to the King, brought together representatives of the various royal houses, amakhosi, izinduna, and senior members of the royal lineage.
The primary agenda of the gathering was to:
discuss the formation of the Zulu Royal House Committee, a formal structure that will represent and execute decisions on behalf of the entire Royal Family;
Chart a clear path towards institutional unity and stability within the Royal House; and
Consolidate internal governance in alignment with the Private Office of His Majesty and the King’s Council.
The Royal Family resolved unanimously to reconvene on 29 October 2025 at Emashobeni Royal Palace to formally select and ratify members of the Zulu Royal House Committee, which will operate alongside the King’s Private Office in matters of heritage, governance, and family affairs.
Presentation of Resolutions to His Majesty the King
Following their deliberations, the Royal Family delegation proceeded to Emashobeni Royal Palace to present their resolutions and seek His Majesty’s blessing.
In receiving the report, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini commended the Royal Family for their maturity and sense of duty, and endorsed the resolution to establish a unified Royal House Committee.
His Majesty further mandated the family to engage with President Cyril Ramaphosa to convey gratitude for the government’s continued recognition and cooperation with the Zulu Monarchy during a period of judicial uncertainty.

Address by His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini
In His address to the Royal Family, the King expressed both humility and resolve, urging his family and the nation to resist the temptation of triumphalism and to instead embrace reconciliation.
His Majesty stated, “BoNdaba, we still have much work to do in reuniting this family.
“Our task is not complete until we are one, as we were before some among us were misled from the truth they know”.
His Majesty further remarked, “I did not ask to be on this throne; I was born into it. It is not a position from which one can resign; it is a sacred responsibility I must bear with your support as the elders of this family.
“Among us are those with political ambitions who protect their political interests rather than their royal blood.
“We know them and we see them.
“I call upon you to filter the noise and focus your energy on restoring harmony and rebuilding unity.”
The King emphasised that division within an African family is not to be celebrated, calling on all members to dedicate themselves to the collective healing and preservation of the Zulu nation’s heritage and dignity.
King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has called upon the Royal Family, amakhosi, and the Zulu nation at large to embrace this moment with humility, wisdom, and renewed commitment to unity.
His Majesty said this was not a time for celebration, but a time for healing and rebuilding.
The Zulu Monarchy remains a pillar of cultural identity, social cohesion, and moral guidance for the people of KwaZulu-Natal and the wider African continent.
