Johannesburg – The police in Gauteng are looking for at least five armed robbers who stormed a church in Diepsloot on Friday and fired shots that left the pastor dead.
Two congregants were injured in the shooting, which occurred around 23h45.
About 50 congregants were worshipping when the gunmen burst in and started firing their guns randomly.
The armed gang robbed congregants of their personal belongings including cash and cellphones before fleeing from the scene.
“Three of the people who were shot, including the pastor, were taken to a local medical centre where the pastor died on arrival. The other two are in serious but stable condition,” said police Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.
“A case of murder, attempted murder, and business robbery has been opened and police are searching for the suspects.
“Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of suspects to please call the nearest police station or crime stop on 08600 10111.”
