Johannesburg – The number of people injured along Bree Street where a suspected gas explosion tore up the tarmac on Wednesday evening causing multiple car crashes, has been revised upwards to 48.
At least 23 vehicles, including minibus taxis with passengers, were involved in the multiple crashes.
During an update on Thursday morning, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said apart from the increased injuries, a fatality linked to the explosion has been reported.
The Premier said the body of an unidentified male was found under a vehicle in the early hours of Thursday morning.
He said authorities were still trying to locate the family of the deceased man.

Gauteng and City of Joburg officials have shut down Bree Street in the city centre.
Premier Lesufi called for minimum movement around affected areas.
