Johannesburg – Law enforcers have swooped on a plot in Douglasdale, where they found a multi-million rand illicit drug lab.
During the raid at the plot on Thursday, (22 August 2024), police discovered drugs and processing machinery worth an estimated R80 million.
The police Organised Crime Unit and PES FlEXI also recovered two unlicensed firearms, ammunition of high caliber firearms, pellet guns, and replica firearms.
Two illegal immigrants found at the premises were arrested.
Law enforcers had been observing and monitoring suspicious activities at the plot before they obtained a search warrant and swooped on the premises used to manufacture illicit drugs.
Commenting on the drug bust, Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni commended the team that uncovered the illegal operation.
“More than 10 drug labs have been discovered by the police in Gauteng in the last five months,” said Lieutenant General Mthombeni.
“This is evidence enough that we are making inroads in identifying and dismantling drug labs in our province.
“I am proud of my members who have been working with diligence to identify and close down the existing drug labs in our province.”
The arrested suspects will soon appear in court to face several charges that include the unlawful manufacturing of drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms, and possession of ammunition.
