KaBokweni – The second suspect arrested for the Piennar Tavern shooting that left eight people dead has been unmasked.
Days after his arrest, 43-year-old Mduduzi Kehla Lubisi appeared in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court, near Mbombela (Nelspruit), Mpumalanga on Thursday, (16 January 2025).
Lubisi and his co-accused, 39-year-old Bongani Patrick Nkosi, who was arrested first, are accused of firing shots outside the Levisa Bar Lounge – a tavern in Pienaar – at the weekend killing six people on the spot.

Two others succumbed to gunshot wounds in hospital.

Lubisi was arrested earlier this week on Tuesday in Pienaar.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said: “The suspect appeared in KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to 21 January 2025 for a formal bail application”.
Both accused Nkosi and Lubisi remain in custody and will be appearing together in court next Tuesday, (21 January 2025).
