Mbombela (Nelspruit) – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a mass shooting that claimed eight lives and left three other people wounded at a tavern in Pienaar, in Mpumalanga.
The mass shooting at the tavern in Pienaar, near Mbombela, occurred early morning on Saturday, (11 January 2025).

Six people were shot dead on the spot and two others died in hospital.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said: “There has been another breakthrough by Mpumalanga police for arresting a male suspect in Pienaar this afternoon, (14 January 2025).
Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane added: “During his arrest, police confiscated three pistols with no ammunition.
“The suspect will soon appear in court.”
The 43-year-old second suspected gunman was arrested in Pienaar.
On Monday, (13 January 2025), police announced that they had arrested the first suspect – 39-year-old Bongani Patrick Nkosi.

Earlier on Tuesday Nkosi made his first court appearance and was remanded in custody.
