Polokwane – Police in Limpopo have arrested a second suspect, aged 30, in connection with the murder of 77-year-old Tolwe farmer Attie Mahne.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect was arrested at Shongoane 01 in Lephalale during the early hours of Thursday, 4 December 2025.

Police had been searching for two intruders who entered a farmhouse on a farm near Baltimore, Capricorn district, Limpopo, on Saturday, 29 November 2025, and fatally assaulted the elderly farmer.

Earlier, the intruders had also intimidated, at knifepoint, the farmer’s wife before tying her up.

The farmer was found tied up and unconscious inside his farmhouse and was certified dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Services.

A gun and an unspecified amount of money were stolen.

Police spokesperson Colonel Ledwaba said the first suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, and a reported stolen firearm was recovered.

“The suspects were arrested through a coordinated operation involving members of the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, Tolwe and Mokopane Detectives, including Bosbeld Misdaad Ondersoeke, and Bosveld Plaasbeveiliging Security Companies,” the police spokesperson said.

The suspect arrested first, named Hendrick Chimule, has appeared in Tolwe Periodical Court, where his matter was adjourned to 29 January 2026.

He was remanded in custody.

The second suspect was expected to be named after his appearance before the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court later today, Friday, 5 December 2025.
