Johannesburg – Thamsanqa Kenke the spokesperson for the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) has quit the organisation and joined the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party (MKP).
Speaking exclusively to The Bulrushes on Sunday, Kenke said: “There have been developments driven by my conscience to disassociate myself with campaigning for the African National Congress (ANC) in the upcoming provincial and national elections”.

Kenke said because SANCO has aligned with the ANC he was unable to remain a member of the organisation he joined 21 years ago as a young pastor in Welkom, Lejweleputswa Region, Free State.
“It is unfortunate that the [SANCO] presidency has on a number of occasions made pronouncements that if any leader of SANCO refused to campaign for the ANC they should go,” said Kenke.
He said SANCO was meant to be a non-political organisation with interests in community development and society as a whole.
Kenke, who was an NEC member of SANCO, has written to the organisation to say he has resigned.
“It has been a decision that was not arrived at lightly,” the former SANCO spokesperson said.
“After having made that decision and made it known, I later on joined the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party.
“I am aware that both the two separate decisions, resolving not to campaign for the ANC and later on joining MKP are contradicting the conference resolution that SANCO would actively campaign for the ANC.”
